Executive Summary 

We are developing an antimicrobial technology designed to coat the inside of catheters. MicrobeBlaster's inception began as a solution to the current problem of hospital-acquired infection and the emerging problem of antibiotic resistance. Some of the most resistant pathogens live in hospitals, where patients are constantly probed with polyurethane or silicone catheters to administer drugs and fluids, as well as receive transfusions. However, current catheters offer no inherent protection against dangerous microbes and rather, offer germs easy access to a patient's bloodstream. The market demands a solution to this problem, which costs approximately ninety-thousand lives and forty-five billion dollars annually in the United States. Our MicrobeBlaster technology offers a solution to this compounding problem.
