To combat growing antibiotic and copper resistance to the causative agent of tomato bacterial speck, P. syringae pv. tomato, I am interested in exploring tomato rhizobacteria for potential biocontrol of this disease-causing phytopathogen. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria indirectly promote plant growth by inhibiting pathogens via a broad range of secreted compounds. I am specifically interested in their antimicrobial peptides, known as bacteriocins, for sustainable disease prevention in agriculture.
