This position represents an exciting opportunity for a young scientist to assist in the development of novel technologies utilizing both chromatography and mass spectrometry. The candidate will work closely with the Separations Research Group of Waters Corporation, a world leader in analytical instrumentation used in all areas of chemical, biochemical and clinical analysis. The Waters Separations Research Group is a multidisciplinary team of chemists, physicists, and engineers responsible for the development of next-generation separations systems.
Waters is looking for creative scientists who want to be part of a fast-moving research team and who enjoy hands-on, in-the-lab prototyping. The role may involve the creation of a new instrument or implementing current technology in a new way to solve a problem. For example, in past years, the iCons students have made impactful contribution to projects including the development of a novel device to analyze human breath, the optimization an innovative mass spectrometry ion source, the development of a microfluidic sample derivatization system, and the integration of a novel sample preparation device with mass spectrometry.
This role will guide and shape development of new products and applications for Waters by integrating knowledge of chemistry and hardware development in the areas of pharmaceutical discovery and development, food safety, environmental testing, and clinical research.

Vaccine & Immunotherapy Center at Mass General Hospital
Location: Boston, MA
Pertinent details: Seeking iCons applicants with an interest in working at the interface of mathematics and biology, as several projects have generated/are generating large datasets using multiparameter/high-dimensional technologies (mass cytometry, mass spec imaging, imaging mass cytometry), and there is opportunity for a motivated student to be involved in establishing cutting edge data analysis strategies to address any of several biological questions. The datasets span infectious disease, cancer immunotherapy, and wound healing, in both animal models and human samples, with the potential for identifying new observations and mechanistic insights. An understanding of basic immunology would be helpful, though not essential. More important will be an understanding of at least basic statistics and a basic familiarity with MatLab and R. Working knowledge of Python and familiarity with machine learning approaches would be a significant advantage.
Students with a general interest in the areas in which VIC is active (infectious disease, cancer immunology, diabetes, cell therapy for wound healing) are welcome to apply, but priority will be given to applicants with the interests and skills noted above.
