Event Details

#BlackinSTEM at UMassThis is a time of both great uncertainty and great promise. The global pandemic and national awakening to racial violence has challenged us to consider our relationship to each other, our institutions, and established academic and social structures. #BlackInSTEM at UMass is an interactive forum for our Black and non-Black students of color to hear about the experiences of Black faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students as they navigate careers in higher education.

Faculty and graduate students from the College of Natural Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the College of Information and Computer Sciences will discuss their experiences in higher education and offer advice to and answer questions from our Black and non-Black students of color and alumni.

Participants: Gerry Downes (Biology), Wilmore Webley (Microbiology), Mélise Edwards (Psychological Brain Sciences), Gorana Gonzalez (Psychological Brain Sciences), Brittany Johnson (Computer Science), John Wamburu (Computer Science), Shannon Roberts (Electrical and Computer Engineering), Randy Kwende (Electrical and Computer Engineering), and Cielo Sharkus (Civil and Environmental Engineering).
