Executive Summary

For my Honors Thesis, I am looking at the application of Constructivist Learning Theory in college mathematics classrooms at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I am examining how the theory is being utilized and determining how it influences the gained knowledge in mathematics courses taught at the University. Constructivist Learning Theory argues that students learn best by forming meaning and developing knowledge through their experiences. I hypothesize that students' level of performance is higher in college mathematics classes where elements of Constructivist Learning Theory are more evident.
